Single Phase Wave Soldering Machine

The single-phase wave soldering machine is an advanced equipment mainly used for through-hole assembly. It is a specialized type of wave soldering that employs a solder pump to discharge the molten solder continuously and steadily, creating a 20-40mm high crest. This extrusion allows the solder to penetrate into the plug-in holes, resulting in higher quality soldering. Therefore, it is highly beneficial and widely praised by PCBA processing plants.

Here are some advantages of using single-phase wave soldering machines:

  • It can avoid solder accumulation on the board’s surface and PCB short circuit of solder joints caused by uneven solder spraying during spraying, which is a common problem with old-fashioned wave soldering machines.
  • Compared to hot dip soldering, single-phase wave soldering allows better temperature control and reduces the proportion of warm soldering.
  • It can be used for both SMT and THT assembly, reducing the cost of the PCBA factory.
  • It is suitable for large-volume assembly projects and can achieve faster soldering. Even if the PCB is not placed flat during soldering, as long as the warpage is less than 1.3%, the soldering will not fail, significantly improving the quality of PCB assembly.

However, there are two technical difficulties when soldering SMD components:

  • Bubble shadow effect: Due to temperature, the PCB flux sprayed before soldering may generate gas and stay on the surface of the PCB, resulting in virtual soldering and missing soldering.
  • Shadow effect: The tight assembly of components on the PCB causes a shadow area between high SMD components and low SMD components, creating a soldering dead area.
Despite these challenges, TechSparks believes that single-phase wave soldering machines are still a valid choice for through-hole assembly.
